Dr. Zsolt Zsoldos biography |
Zsolt Zsoldos is the President and Chief Scientific Officer of SimBioSys, Inc. He has been
actively doing research in the field of computer methods applied to structure-based drug
discovery in the past 20 years. Prior to founding SimBioSys, Inc. in 1996, he was a doctoral
student, and later a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Leeds, UK, School of Chemistry,
where he worked under the supervision of Professor Peter Johnson. His main research focus was
developing the SPROUT de-novo design tool. He was one of the main contributors to the program,
that received numerous awards and recognitions of the community for the pioneering work in
fragment based drug design. Building on those early experiences, today Dr. Zsoldos devotes his
efforts to developing a new and truly unique approach to docking and scoring in eHiTS, along with
tackling a few other very challenging problems of chemistry like retrosynthetic analysis with
the Route Designer tool. Another passion of Dr. Zsoldos is high performance computing, he
pioneered porting of eHiTS to IBM's Cell B/E platform, that is the integral part of Sony's
PlayStation3, making high performance computing available on inexpensive gaming platforms a
reality for the computational savvy docking and screening applications. These efforts of
Dr. Zsoldos did not go unnoticed in the computational chemistry world, his eHiTS Lightning
docking and virtual screening applications on the PS3 was a finalist at the Bio IT World's Best
of Show Award in Boston, Apr 2008.
